| Description: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is responsible for leading DHS’ Digital Transformation by providing enterprise information technology (IT) services, technical architectural planning, and oversight of IT portfolios. The OCIO strengthens cybersecurity, IT acquisition, IT security, and executive oversight, and promotes the use of standardized, reusable IT solutions within a unified framework for managing DHS IT investments.
The OCIO is the DHS lead for cloud-based computing in private, hybrid and public cloud environments and is responsible for providing an enterprise data fabric and data catalog that facilitates data discovery, improves data quality and trust, and removes barriers to information sharing within DHS, with external federal partners, and with the public.
The OCIO manages multiple IT projects spanning design, development, testing and staging, and operations and maintenance (O&M). The OCIO seeks to provide innovative business solutions, lower costs through shared services, and reduce time to delivery for new capabilities. As the foundation for customer-centric service delivery, OCIO establishes a secure utility computing environment where innovation, re-use, efficiency, and quality are core principles.
The OCIO supports both new mission requirements and modernization efforts, including:
Leveraging new technology
Replacing manual, inefficient processes with automation
Integrating data across DHS for advanced analytics and improved decision-making
The OCIO also supports strategic data management to ensure DHS acquires, ingests, generates, maintains, manages, governs, stores, and shares data in an efficient and mission-focused manner. This will improve the Department’s data posture, providing clear leadership, and a mechanism for effective strategic prioritization and management of DHS enterprise data. |
