Estimated Solicitation Release: 2025-09-12 Contract Complete: 2025-12-11
Requirements Title: X-ray Diffractometer (Free-Standing)
Description: The instrumentation must, at a minimum, be capable of the following tasks: 1) The instrument must be capable of quantitatively processing analyses of powdered material in bulk up to a few grams and qualitatively down to several milligrams. 2) The instrument should include a license to the PDF5+ file from the International Center for Diffraction Data. 3) The instrument should have the software for qualitative ID searching and quantitative analysis using Rietveld refinement. 4) The instrument should have an autosampler capable of processing at least 15 samples unattended. 5) The instrument should be able to run on U.S. current using standard 120 V or 240 V outlets. European standard voltages cannot be accommodated. 6) Instruction manuals and guides should be provided in English, in both hardcopy and digital form. Setup/Installation and Training The vendor shall provide installation qualification and operation qualification (IQ/OQ) documentation and any other pertinent certification at the time of installation. The instrument shall be designed to be plugged in and immediately operational. Therefore, all instrument documentation should be provided in electronic format with a minimum of one hard copy. Removal and Disposal of Old Equipment The vendor should provide for the removal and disposal of the current equivalent X-ray Diffractometer. Currently the laboratory utilizes a Malvern Empyrean XRD system and as such the necessary consumable equipment, training, methods, validations, and standards operating procedures (SOPs), electrical requirements, and accreditation scopes are all designed with this in place. The building currently operates on a lease with any additional modifications being done to the building. Acquisition of any other type of system could result in inoperability and ceased quota/trade enforcement analysis from the laboratory, increased uncertainty error percentages in analyses, incompatible software/system crossover, and creation and/or complete rehauls of SOPs, methods, validations, training, etc. The Malvern Empyrean XRD is also the only XRD that currently has fully automated multipurpose optics (incident and diffracted beams) which are crucial for ensuring the lab’s analytical methods are optimized for each beam.
