| Description: The Department of The Navy has issued a Shutdown policy for Foam – Based Fire Suppression in Department of Navy Hangers. Based on the findings of a risk – informed analysis and the cost of continuing maintenance and cleanup of accidental discharges of foam systems, existing foam – based FSS are not an acceptable option for fire suppression in DON hanger facilities.
The NASOC Corpus Christi AMO is equipped with a low – Level, low expansion AFF System, water based automatic water sprinkler system, and portable fire extinguishers.
CBP wishes to replace the existing AFFF fire suppression system to a safer water-based suppression system. This includes conducting a LOCK OUT/TAG, a rinse-flush-dispose of the existing AFFF, and abandon-in-place of the AFFF equipment. It is CBP’s intent to build the new water-based system in place, ready for operating before decommissioning the existing AFFF System. As Such CBP is engaging the services of a professional fire protection Architect/Engineering firm, experienced in the design of the AFFF and water – based sprinkler systems in the aircraft hangers.
